Leading U.S. Companies Report Sustainability Progress
Author:
Thirty-two leading U.S. companies reported on their ongoing sustainability efforts in Business Roundtable's "SEE"ing Change: 2008 Progress Report. Member companies (listed below), representing virtually every sector of the economy, outlined their efforts to achieve real environmental and social changes through their commitments to sustainable business practices.
S.E.E. Change (Society, Environment, Economy) was launched in 2005 by Business Roundtable, an association of 160 CEOs representing $4.5 trillion in revenue and nearly 10 million employees – to promote better business and a better world. The report released today is part of the membership's ongoing efforts to measure and share sustainability best practices.

"Sustainability is a journey, not a destination," says Charles O. Holliday, chairman of Business Roundtable's Environment, Technology and the Economy Task Force and chairman and CEO of DuPont. "The companies comprising S.E.E. Change have committed to this journey as they seek to be a part of the solution to bettering society and the environment."
S.E.E. Change demonstrates that traditional business goals of high profits and low costs are compatible with a strong commitment to social and environment improvement.
"While we each have a personal responsibility to limit our environmental impact, true sustainability is only achievable if the largest companies in U.S. economy are active participants. Through the 2008 Progress Report, S.E.E. Change member companies are showcasing their commitment to concrete action," says John Castellani, president of Business Roundtable.
